There are over one hundred and sixty post-16 students presently studying at Clyst Vale Community College. Increasingly students are joining us from other schools and colleges, attracted by the individual approach the college prides itself on. The curriculum, dress code, responsibilities and expectations of maturity mark them out from the rest of the college. Post-16 students are respected and enjoy privileges not made available to younger students; however, more freedom brings with it responsibilities. Post -16 students are inevitably seen as role models by the rest of the college and are called upon to be ambassadors for the college in their dealings with visitors and in their conduct around and outside the college.
Post-16 students have their own area of the college with classrooms, a common room, kitchen area and a purpose built IT suite. Post-16 meet as a whole group once a week for an assembly and have a tutorial every other week. Both tutor groups and teaching groups are relatively small meaning that students can be individually monitored and counselled. Post-16 students actively consult with the management team responsible for Post-16 students through their own representative body and organise social events for students and staff alike.
The Post-16 curriculum offers a wide range of courses leading to Higher Education and employment. At Advanced Level over 30 AS and A2 qualifications are offered. We also deliver a level 2 course. Students have the advantage of working within an intimate and supportive environment that is also challenging and stimulating.
The Post-16 curriculum offers a comprehensive tutorial and enrichment programme enabling our Post-16 students to make the transition from college to the adult world knowing that they have had an excellent start to their post-16 careers.
